This literature review focusses only on relevant literature and documentation linking mātauranga Māori, cultural monitoring and assessment, to environmental decision-making. However, here is a noticeable lack of literature in the ‘how to’ in the uptake of indigenous knowledge in environmental management. The most notable example is a framework developed by Tipa and Nelson (2008) for incorporating cultural perspectives into resource management. It attempts to collate and briefly describe the current body of knowledge accessible for scientific research.
